Head Teacher

The primary school section of the Nigerian International School Cotonou has existed for about twenty-eight years having been established in 1982. It was for a period of nine years in a temporary site at Guinkomey in Cotonou. In 1991, it moved into its permanent site in the prestigious ambassadorial area of Haie-vive, along Avenue du France, Marina, on the drive way to the Cotonou International airport. In 1996, the secondary school arm of the school was established. The secure and serene environment of the school gives teachers and pupils a conducive teaching and learning atmosphere respectively.

The school runs the Nigerian system of Education, but ensures that the scheme of instruction is expansive in order to reflect its international status. Subjects taught include Mathematics, English, French, Primary Science, Health Education, Moral Instruction, Christian Religious Studies, Islamic Religious Studies, Computer Studies, Music and Social Studies. Pupils belong to clubs and societies and go on excursions to places of educational interests.

Children from several countries across the globe whose parents are resident in Cotonou have passed through the primary school. Presently, and usually, the school has children from Nigeria, Benin, Ghana, Niger, Gabon, Togo, India, Lebanon, American, England, Sierra Leone, Cote d`ivoire and a few others. Those whose parents are not resident in Cotonou who have attained about ten years of age are now conveniently accommodated in the school’s hostels.

Previously, till 2007 terminal certificates were issued to Primary Six leavers on the completion of their primary school education based on their continuous assessment records. The basic education policy adopted in Nigeria in 2008 implies that pupils are currently not issued certificates till they successfully complete junior secondary school class three (3), which is the end of the nine (9) year basic education scheme. Pupils who successfully complete their Primary Six are absorbed into the secondary school arm of the school based on their performance at the Entrance Examination usually conducted for admission into the Secondary School.

The Primary School has a pre-school section for children of ages three (3) to five (5). The section has a kindergarten of children of age three (3), a nursery one class for children of age four (4) and a nursery two class of children for age five (5). The activity rooms are spacious and beautifully designed for the excitement of the children. The teachers are trained and reasonably motivated to ensure that they properly prepare the children and get them ready for the primary school at the age of about six (6) years.

In the primary school, each child is given due attention. The population of pupils per class is limited. There are two teachers in each class to ensure effective class control and individualized attention.
We enjoin parents to take advantage of the opportunity offered in Nigerian International School Cotonou to set their children on the track of sound education.

For admission procedure, please contact the school administration.
